Mining

Mining vehicles operating underground in poorly ventilated areas, running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week present particularly challenging and important environmental concerns. If untreated, the diesel exhaust being emitted from these vehicles is inhaled by the operators before dissipating. Increased exposure to diesel exhaust is a factor in heart and lung disease and a possible carcinogen affecting your workers’ health, safety and productivity.

The harmful components of diesel exhaust include particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrocarbons (HC).
Engine Control Systems Limited (ECS) offers three retrofit solutions designed specifically for mining applications; which are  industry leading verified solutions*. In addition, our application engineering approach to your emission control mandate is the difference between a one-size-fits-all solution and a comfortable custom-fit solution insuring quick and easy installations:

  • First ECS offers two different types of diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), each available in two configurations. The AZ catalyst is supported on a ceramic substrates and affords excellent low temperature emissions reduction performance as well as EPA and ARB verifications. The AZ catalyst can be supplied in two product configurations.

    • The Severe Duty AZ Purifier – offering 20-40%* reduction dependent on the vehicle or the,
    • The Severe Duty AZ Purimuffler (a combined AZ Purifier catalyst and silencer solution to enhance the packaging of the DOC solution within the vehicle).
ECS also offers the DZ and EZ diesel oxidation catalyst supported on a metallic substrate which affords exceptional resistance to vibration and affords the lowest possible exhaust backpressure.

    • The DZ series was the first diesel purifier in the industry to feature quick release band clamps. This allows the center body to be readily removed for periodic engine-out opacity measurements or for purifier cleaning. These DZ purifiers are also available with modular add-on DMS and DMXS silencers.
    • The EZ purifier offers the same metallic substrate based catalyst as the DZ purifier but in an all welded purifier to afford the most compact size and lower cost.
  • The second option is the Cattrap, a passively regenerating diesel particulate filter which incorporates a base metal catalyst to provide >85% PM reduction without any increase in NO2 emissions. If NO2 emissions are not a concern in a given mining environment, then mining customers can also consider the use of the ECS Purifilter. (See the Construction tab for further information about the ECS Purifilter.)
  • The third is the Combifilter, an actively regenerated DPF system that typically removes 90+ % of PM* while reducing NO2 emissions. The system is comprised of an integrated DPF and silencer assembly, and an off-board regeneration control panel or station.
    • Depending on the Combifilter™ you choose, simply plug your Combifilter™ equipped vehicle in when you’re on lunch or when the days work is done and your equipment will always be ready for a day’s uninterrupted work.
      • Combifilter™ Type S regenerates or self cleans in 60 to 90 minutes.
      • Combifilter™ Type K regenerates in eight hours or overnight.

These are solutions you can also feel good about, knowing your emission control dollars are serving the environment and your employees well with the best verified solution in the industry*. Because particulate exposure increases exponentially with proximity to the source, reducing emissions with these retrofit technologies in the vicinity of people provides critical public health benefits and minimizes a person's exposure to these harmful emissions.

The products offered by Engine Control Systems go through a strict testing and validation regime. ECS holds more product certifications and verifications than our competitors. Letters of evaluation from agencies, testing results, and papers are readily available to our customers.

RETROFIT EMISSION SOLUTIONS

Severe Duty AZ Purifier and AZ Purimuffler - Diesel Oxidation Catalyst

Severe Duty AZ Purifier

The Severe Duty AZ Purifier is an oxidation catalyst that is installed upstream of the vehicles original muffler to provide emissions reduction. It is also double wrapped for safety and longevity. The AZ Purimuffler incorporates an oxidation catalyst and muffler into a single integrated package. Exhaust enters the catalyst and the harmful exhaust is chemically and physically modified into harmless air and water. AZ Purimufflers can be designed to be a direct fit replacement for the manufacturer’s original muffler. This means less down time and less invasive installation. AZ Purimufflers are a quick and efficient way to effectively reduce harmful diesel emissions.

DZ and EZ Purifiers- Diesel Oxidation Catalyst

ECS also offers the DZ and EZ Purifiers which are supported on a metallic substrate to afford high resistance to vibration and the lowest possible exhaust backpressure

Cattrap - Diesel Particulate Filter

Cattrap - Diesel Particulate Filter

The Cattrap is a passively regenerating diesel particulate filter coated with a base and precious metal catalytic layer. Exhaust enters the filter where the particulate is "trapped". When appropriate temperatures are reached the particulate is "burned". Exhaust with 85% particulate matter comes out and the filter continually "regenerates" or cleans itself. The Cattrap replaces the current muffler it provides superior noise attenuation that is comparable to high grade mufflers. When used in conjunction with PuriNOx, an emulsified fuel developed by Lubrizol, reductions of HC, CO and NO is evident.

Combifilter - Diesel Particulate Filter

Combifilter

The Combifilter is comprised of an integrated diesel particulate filter and silencer in one design and an electrically powered regeneration station. The filter assembly typically removes >90% of the DPM from engine exhaust. The filtered particles are stored in the filter until it is regenerated. Regeneration is typically required on a daily basis either once a work shift or overnight. Because the Combifilter is electrically regenerated there is no concern for adequate vehicle duty cycles or temperature traces.
